Once they are on DVD, you can then keep them safely with the least minimal risk of getting damaged. You can save on storage space, too, because DVDs and CDs are slimmer than VHS cassette tapes.
Having high quality copies of your movie and music CDs is indeed very useful in keeping them in safe condition so that you can enjoy them for many more years. You may even be able to show the films to your grandchildren in the future.
